I am obsessed with Muddy Buddies, Puppy Chow, whatever you want to call it! I recently bought some incredible unicorn theme sprinkles at a local cooking store and had a really fun time imagining how I could use them in my next baking adventure.
A Birthday Cake Batter Muddy Buddy recipe did the trick!
My favorite sprinkles are Fancy Sprinkles or Sweetapolita. In NYC, I can find them at looking baking shops but their online stores also have tons of options. I used Sweetapolita’s Sweet Twinkle sprinkles for this recipe.
Check out the recipe below:
Birthday Cake Muddy Buddies
Pour the cereal and popcorn in a large bowl, mix together and set aside.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt coconut oil and white chocolate. Stir constantly until the white chocolate is fully melted.
Pour warm white chocolate mixture over cereal and popcorn.
Wait 2-3 minutes until cool and then add the sprinkles to mixture. If you add them while the contents are still warm, the sprinkles will most likely melt- like the batch I did before this one haha!
In a bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and gradually add in the funfetti cake box mix. Note here that you should do a taste test while you a folding in the cake mix because it’s very strong in flavor and you may not need that much of it to give it that amazing birthday cake flavor! If you do too much it can taste overpowering and tarte.
Pour the powdered sugar cake mixture over the cereal and popcorn and stir together until coated to your liking.
Store at room temperature for up to a week (if you add fresh popcorn, the popcorn will go stale after 5-6 days)
